The artist
Adrian Sutherland is a singer-songwriter, recording artist, author, and community leader from Attawapiskat First Nation on James Bay. After releasing four albums with the roots-rock band Midnight Shine, he began a solo career with When the Magic Hits in 2021 and followed it with Precious Diamonds in 2024. His solo work brings rock, roots, folk, and blues together with stories from northern life and his Cree culture; Precious Diamonds includes songs written in Omushkegowuk Cree. Sutherland remained active in 2025 and 2026 through the collaborative song I'm Not Afraid, an Ontario tour, and the publication of his memoir The Work of Our Hands.
