About

The artist

Alan Syliboy & The Thundermakers is a Mi'kmaw rock and spoken-word group based in Millbrook First Nation, Nova Scotia. Led by visual artist, vocalist, and percussionist Alan Syliboy, the ensemble connects contemporary rock, jazz, ambient orchestral music, and improvisation with Mi'kmaw stories and cultural memory. Its multimedia concerts incorporate Syliboy's visual art and animation. The group has collaborated with Symphony Nova Scotia and performed widely across Atlantic Canada. Its recorded catalogue includes the 2019 album Signal Fire, the 2024 album Marks on the Ground, and the 2025 single Nowhere With You. Music Nova Scotia named the group Indigenous Artist of the Year in 2018 and 2019, and the East Coast Music Association nominated it for Indigenous Artist of the Year in 2019, 2021, and 2022. The group was also a 2025 ECMA nominee for Entertainer of the Year and Fusion Release of the Year.
