About

The artist

Alessia Cara is a Toronto singer-songwriter who began by posting acoustic covers online and broke through internationally with Here in 2015. Her debut album Know-It-All established a conversational style that carried into The Pains of Growing, In the Meantime, and Love & Hyperbole. Cara's writing often examines social discomfort, body image, mental health, adulthood, and relationships with a plainspoken pop and R&B sensibility. She won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2018 and has received five Juno Awards. In 2026, she marked ten years of her recording career with Love or Lack Thereof, a live jazz and soul reworking of earlier songs featuring Nelly Furtado and Norah Jones, followed by the single IN MY HANDS. Current interviews and industry profiles continue to identify Toronto as her home base.
