About
The artist
Alex Cuba is the stage name of Alexis Puentes, a Cuban-Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Smithers, British Columbia. He moved to Canada in 1999, first performing with his brother Adonis as the Puentes Brothers before beginning a solo career in 2003. Cuba's music brings Cuban rhythm and songcraft together with Latin pop, funk, jazz, soul, and acoustic songwriting. He has also written for other artists, including co-writing material for Nelly Furtado's Spanish-language album Mi Plan. His independent catalog on Caracol Records spans Humo de Tabaco, Agua del Pozo, Sublime, Mendó, and the 2025 album Índole. Mendó won the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album, while Índole became the first winner of the Juno Award for Latin Music Recording of the Year in 2026. New singles and Canadian concert dates through 2026 confirm an active recording and touring practice.
