The artist
Alice Ping Yee Ho is a Hong Kong-born Chinese Canadian composer and pianist based in Toronto. Her work spans opera, orchestra, chamber ensemble, choral music, dance, theatre, solo instruments, and electroacoustic practice, often bringing Chinese musical and theatrical traditions into conversation with contemporary Western forms. She studied composition at Indiana University and the University of Toronto and has built a catalog performed by orchestras and ensembles in Canada and internationally. Major stage works include The Lesson of Da Ji, The Monkiest King, and CHINATOWN, created with librettist Madeleine Thien and Hoisanese writer Paul Yee. Recordings include CHINATOWN, Dark Tales, Phoenix Rising, and the 2026 piano album THE IMAGINED. Ho won the 2024 Jules Léger Prize for Femme de Glace and has received multiple Juno Award nominations, confirming both sustained activity and national recognition.
