About
The artist
Alvvays is a Toronto-based indie-pop band formed in 2011 by musicians with roots in Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island. Singer and guitarist Molly Rankin, keyboardist Kerri MacLellan, guitarist Alec O'Hanley, and their collaborators moved from Canada's East Coast to Toronto to build the project. The band's 2014 self-titled debut introduced a mix of jangle pop, dream pop, surf-toned guitar, and melancholy storytelling, with Archie, Marry Me becoming its defining early song. Antisocialites followed in 2017, while Blue Rev returned in 2022 with denser shoegaze texture, faster arrangements, and songs including Belinda Says. That song earned Alvvays a 2024 Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Performance. The group's official Bandcamp continues to identify Toronto, and Rankin discussed the nomination from her Toronto home in 2024. The current lineup remains active through touring and catalog activity.
