About

The artist

Annabelle Chvostek is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose work crosses folk, jazz, indie pop, choral music, dance, and film. Born in Toronto, she developed her early solo career in Montréal's interdisciplinary arts scene and independently released four albums between 1997 and 2003. Chvostek joined The Wailin' Jennys in 2004, writing four songs for Firecracker and touring internationally with the trio before returning to solo work. Resilience followed in 2008, Rise in 2012, and Be the Media in 2015. Rise received a Juno nomination for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year, while Rise and Resilience were nominated at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. She also co-wrote two songs with Bruce Cockburn for his 2011 album A Small Source of Comfort. After hearing loss and tinnitus forced a quieter period, Chvostek expanded into choral arranging and conducting through a Toronto Echo Women's Choir residency. String of Pearls, released in 2021, brought Canadian and Uruguayan musicians together around tango, cabaret, hot jazz, and contemporary roots songwriting and earned another Canadian Folk Music Award nomination. Her 2022 singles included D'être humain and a version of Leonard Cohen's Dance Me to the End of Love. In 2026, she continues to co-direct and write with the Elementary Teachers of Toronto Choir and presents a Tranzac residency combining experimental music, song, dance, and technology. Her official site lists MQGV Records for label and management, with public booking and publicity contacts by territory.
