The artist

Anvil is a Toronto heavy metal band formed in 1978 by guitarist and vocalist Steve Lips Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner, who had played together since their teens. The group first recorded as Lips before adopting the Anvil name, and early albums Hard 'n' Heavy, Metal on Metal, and Forged in Fire placed it near the emergence of speed and thrash metal in North America. Kudlow and Reiner remain the band's central partnership, joined in the current trio by bassist Chris Robertson. Anvil's long career, international touring, and persistence became the subject of the 2008 documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil. The band's twentieth studio album, One and Only, was released by AFM Records in June 2024 and continued its direct heavy metal approach. The group remained on tour in 2025 and 2026, including its Pounding the Past dates.
