About
The artist
Avi Engel is a Toronto musician and visual artist who has released recordings since 2004, previously working as Clara Engel and briefly as Avi C. Engel. Their songs combine voice, a customized four-string guitar and spare chamber textures, with writing shaped by poetry, deep ecology, loss and transformation. The artist-controlled Bandcamp documents a forty-release catalog and identifies Toronto, while a 2026 interview confirms the current name, location and creative practice in the artist's own words. The album “Seedhead,” released in August 2026, features cello, bass clarinet, lap steel, double bass and field recordings around Engel's central voice and guitar.
