The artist
Brian Cherney is a Canadian composer, teacher, and writer based in Montreal. McGill documents his career on the Schulich School of Music faculty since 1972, more than one hundred compositions, and commissions and performances by leading Canadian and international ensembles. His catalogue spans chamber, orchestral, vocal, and solo works including River of Fire, String Quartet No. 3, In the Stillness of the Seventh Autumn, Illuminations, and In the Great Museum of our Memory. The Governor General of Canada identifies Cherney as a Montreal composer and Member of the Order of Canada, while the Canadian Music Centre preserves recordings and scores of his works.
