About

The artist

Bruce Liu is a Montreal classical pianist who came to international attention by winning first prize at the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2021. Born in Paris to Chinese parents, he moved to Montreal at age six and trained at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with Richard Raymond before studying with Dang Thai Son at Université de Montréal. His playing combines clarity, rhythmic flexibility, colour, and a taste for programs that place familiar repertoire beside less expected works. Liu signed an exclusive recording agreement with Deutsche Grammophon after the Chopin Competition. His live competition album was followed by WAVES: Music by Rameau, Ravel, Alkan, a companion Satie release, and Tchaikovsky: The Seasons. WAVES received the 2024 Opus Klassik Young Talent of the Year award. In 2026, Liu performed with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, maintained an international recital and orchestral schedule, and introduced Lunaris, a concept album exploring night, moonlight, reflection, and imagination through music by Chopin, Beethoven, Debussy, Mompou, Cage, and others. Deutsche Grammophon scheduled the album for August 2026 and released advance recordings during the summer. Current 2026 presenters identify Liu as a Montreal pianist, while his official site and label document an active global touring and recording career.
