The artist

Burnstick is the Manitoba folk duo of married musicians Nadia and Jason Burnstick. Nadia is a francophone Métis singer and songwriter, while Jason is a Plains Cree guitarist, songwriter, and Sixties Scoop survivor with roots in Alexander First Nation. Their voices, acoustic guitars, and Jason's lap-slide Weissenborn instruments form music that can feel intimate, spacious, and cinematic. The pair began writing together on their first date and developed a multilingual repertoire in English, French, and Cree. Their early collaboration included the bilingual and trilingual children's recording Dream Big, Little One / Fais de beaux rêves, petit ange. Kîyânaw, released in 2019, established Burnstick's folk-roots identity and earned nominations from the JUNO Awards and Canadian Folk Music Awards. Some Kind of Hell won Single of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. The duo's second full-length album, Made of Sin, arrived in May 2024 after five years of writing and production. It explored partnership, parenting, healing, love, loss, and Jason's experience of the Sixties Scoop. The French-language EP Poussière et prairie followed in November 2025. Burnstick remained active in 2026 with Manitoba Home Routes dates and Western Canadian Music Award nominations for Indigenous Artist and Francophone Artist of the Year. The duo's current official site identifies its members and Manitoba roots, a 2026 presenter describes the act as Manitoba-based, and a direct 2024 interview was conducted from the couple's home in Saint Claude.
