About
The artist
Busty and the Bass is a Montreal music collective formed after a jam among students at McGill University's Schulich School of Music in 2011. The group built its sound from a large rhythm section, horns, keyboards, guitar, and multiple vocal roles, moving freely among soul, funk, alternative R&B, hip-hop, jazz, indie rock, and pop. Early EPs GLAM and LIFT led to extensive Canadian, United States, European, and international touring. The 2017 album Uncommon Good was produced with Grammy-winning engineer Neal Pogue. Eddie followed in 2020 with executive production by Verdine White and guests including George Clinton and Macy Gray. After an original member left during the pandemic, the collective brought new voices into Karneval with STS and the 2023 album Forever Never Cares. That record featured Alistair Blu, Jordan Brown, Katie Tupper, Magi Merlin, and other collaborators, and earned a 2024 JUNO nomination for Breakthrough Group of the Year. The five-song EP The Mannequin arrived through Arts & Crafts in February 2025. Its credits show current writing and production contributions from Scott Bevins, Jordan Brown, Evan Crofton, Julian Trivers, and Chris Vincent. A 2026 professional biography identifies the musicians as Montrealers, documents a 2025 Montreal Jazz Festival appearance, and supports an active European touring cycle. The official website and artist-operated Bandcamp list current releases, shows, management, and booking contacts. Together these sources establish an active, Montreal-based collective with a current Canadian city and province.
