About

The artist

Cædmon's Dream is a medieval doom metal duo based in Nanaimo, British Columbia, on Snuneymuxw territory. Formed around vocalist and drummer Tara Stadnyk and multi-instrumentalist Dallas Kruszelnicki, the project pairs heavy, down-tuned guitar textures with ancient poetry, liturgical chants, and extreme metal vocal techniques. Stadnyk, who holds a graduate degree in medieval and Renaissance literature, draws lyrical and conceptual inspiration from historical texts, Norse sagas, and early Christian mysticism. The duo debuted in December 2020 with Primitive Machine, exploring the relationship between early vocal expression and modern technology. In 2021, they issued Völuspá, rendering the Old Norse mythological poem as a dark ambient metal composition, followed by their 2022 doom metal reinterpretation of 12th-century composer Hildegard von Bingen's liturgical hymn O Ecclesia. Their studio work, recorded with producer and engineer Rob the Viking at The Chamber in Nanaimo, includes the singles Midnight Mass, Before Love, Christians and Sky Gods, and Stone Me. Active in Western Canada's underground and metal circuits, Cædmon's Dream has performed at coastal venues including The Vault Café and The Globe Live Studio.
