About

The artist

Caracol is the stage name of Montréal singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Carole Facal. Raised in Quebec by a Uruguayan father and Swiss mother, she studied classical violin, played guitar in punk groups, competed as a snowboarder, and trained in sound design. Facal first reached a wide audience in the percussion-led world-pop duo DobaCaracol, which toured internationally before she began her solo catalogue as Caracol. Her early releases include L'arbre aux parfums, Blanc mercredi, Shiver, Symbolism, Les yeux transparents, and Tout est différent. Across those records she moved between French and English songwriting, folk, indie pop, electronic production, reggae, and soul. Alongside her artist work, Caracol writes and produces for other performers, film, and television, and participates in professional songwriting programs. The multilingual thirteen-song album Sound System arrived in March 2026 through Kartel Musik and Lady Music, expanding her palette with reggae, afrobeat, pop, and international collaborations. A current National Arts Centre biography, updated in February 2026, identifies her as a Montréal-based songwriter and producer, while current official and professional pages confirm the same city and an active 2026 release and touring cycle.
