About

The artist

Catherine Major is a pianist, singer, songwriter, and composer based in Montréal, Quebec. Classically trained from childhood, she began her professional career at the end of the 1990s and released Par-dessus bord in 2004. Rose sang, Le désert des solitudes, La maison du monde, and Carte mère followed, developing a French-language catalogue shaped by piano, literary writing, orchestral colour, and electronic production. Major also composes for film and won the Jutra Award for Best Original Music for Le Ring. In 2024 she released La mémoire du corps, her first fully instrumental album, extending her work into contemporary neoclassical composition. She then joined singer and songwriter Jean-François Moran in the duo Major-Moran. Their 2025 album Bunker à ciel ouvert presents the pair as writers, performers, and life partners, with Major at piano and voice. The project toured Quebec from autumn 2025 through June 2026, while Major continued selected solo and collaborative concerts. Current Apple Music, presenter, and Quebec music registry pages identify Montréal and document this active period. Her catalogue now spans six principal solo albums, soundtrack and instrumental work, and the ongoing Major-Moran collaboration.
