About

The artist

Christine Tassan is a Montreal guitarist, singer, composer, arranger, and producer who leads several interconnected jazz projects. She founded Christine Tassan et les Imposteures in 2003, establishing a long-running ensemble that brought women instrumentalists to the front of Quebec's gypsy-jazz scene. Across recordings and more than two decades of touring, the group has combined Django Reinhardt's swing language with French chanson, original writing, and contemporary arrangements. Tassan also works in trio and quintet formats. Her 2020 quintet album Voyage intérieur shifted to electric guitar and moved through swing, bolero, bossa, funk, and modern jazz; it received nominations from the JUNO Awards, ADISQ, Prix Opus, and GAMIQ. Earlier, Entre Félix et Django received the Prix Opus for jazz and world-music record of the year. Tassan's official catalogue also includes Sur la route, a musical travelogue released with les Imposteures in 2024. In 2025 she collaborated with flutist Marie-Véronique Bourque on Bruissement boréal, a 13-piece album inspired by natural sounds in Quebec and Saskatchewan. Her official site documents continuing activity through a 2026 Ontario and United States tour followed by dates in Alberta and British Columbia, while current platform calendars list performances in Montreal and elsewhere in Quebec. Tassan remains active as a bandleader, accompanist, teacher, and touring solo guitarist.
