About
The artist
Cinephonic is an Ottawa instrumental project founded in 2018 by composer, pianist and vibraphonist Pierre Chrétien. The project draws on film and library music while bringing together cinematic soul, jazz and instrumental hip-hop. Its third album, Refuge, was released by Marlow Records in April 2025 and features Chrétien with bassist Philippe Charbonneau and drummer Mike Essoudry. A 2025 interview with Chrétien described the record’s blend of acoustic trio performances, turntablism, digital editing and analogue tape.
