The artist

Classified is the stage name of Enfield, Nova Scotia rapper, songwriter, and producer Luke Boyd. He began releasing self-produced music in the 1990s and built a catalogue through independent recording, touring, and his HalfLife Records imprint. Albums including Trial & Error, Boy-Cott-In the Industry, Hitch Hikin' Music, Self Explanatory, and Handshakes and Middle Fingers established a perspective grounded in small-town Nova Scotia, family life, Canadian identity, and the craft of beat-making. His self-titled 2013 album reached number one in Canada and included Inner Ninja with David Myles, which received the JUNO Award for Rap Recording of the Year and became one of his defining crossover songs. Later projects expanded the same first-person approach through Greatful, Tomorrow Could Be the Day Things Change, the Time EP, and Retrospected, which reworked earlier material with acoustic arrangements. Luke's View arrived through HalfLife Records in 2024 and received a 2025 JUNO nomination for Rap Album or EP of the Year. Classified writes and produces much of his own material and has collaborated with artists including Snoop Dogg, DJ Premier, Maestro Fresh Wes, David Myles, Ria Mae, Brett Matthews, and O'Sound. He also uses HalfLife Records to support music connected to his region. Current location evidence is unusually direct: a June 2025 interview with Boyd and his wife focused on their life in rural Nova Scotia and his continuing home base in Enfield, while a 2024 local profile documented that he still writes and records in his Enfield home studio. The 2024 catalogue, 2025 interview, and current public profiles confirm that Classified remains active and based in Nova Scotia.
