The artist

Classik is the recording name of Toronto rapper and producer Charles Monterroza. Raised in Canada by parents who fled the Salvadoran Civil War, he developed an approach to hip-hop shaped by storytelling, jazz samples, soul, and Latin musical references. His 2016 album Gravity established an independent catalogue built around personal reflection and beat-driven writing. Later singles and collaborative releases extended that work through producers and labels including Karmawin, Padre Tóxico, Lab 91 Records, and Vinyl Digital. In 2024, Whispers of a Jazz Club, created with Padre Tóxico, received second place in an International Songwriting Competition special category. The 2025 album A Higher Frequency paired Classik with Karmawin across eight tracks and was followed by singles including My Joker Ways, Reste un peu (Rap Edit), and Don't Mean Nothing. His current official biography describes him as a Toronto-based hip-hop recording artist and producer and links recent CBC coverage, award recognition, and active release pages. Apple Music independently identifies Toronto, Ontario as his current location and shows releases through 2026. Classik remains an independent artist whose public catalogue connects traditional hip-hop craft with contemporary production and bilingual or cross-cultural collaborations.
