The artist

Cœur de pirate is the stage name of Montreal singer-songwriter and pianist Béatrice Martin. Classically trained on piano from childhood, Martin emerged in 2008 with a self-titled debut album whose spare arrangements and direct writing helped introduce francophone chanson-pop to a new generation of listeners in Quebec and abroad. Comme des enfants became an early signature song, and the album established a touring audience in Canada and Europe. Blonde followed in 2011 with a brighter pop palette, while Trauma presented English-language interpretations connected to the Quebec television series of the same name. Martin continued to move between French and English on Roses, the instrumental Child of Light soundtrack, En cas de tempête, ce jardin sera fermé, Perséides, and Impossible à aimer. Her work combines piano-led songwriting, orchestral and electronic textures, precise hooks, and candid accounts of love, rupture, parenthood, and recovery. In 2021, Martin acquired the Montreal independent label that had released her early music and rebuilt it as Bravo Musique, where she serves as president and artistic director while continuing her own recording career. After a three-year pause from new solo releases, Cœur de pirate returned in 2025 with Cavale. The seventh principal studio album includes the title song, Château de sable, and Toujours les vacances, and launched a new concert cycle in Montreal, Quebec City, and Europe. A sold-out Montreal opening and a 2026 Francos de Montréal performance confirmed the project's active status. Billboard Canada recognized Martin with its Trailblazer Award in 2025 for using her platform to support underrepresented voices. Current Bravo Musique, Apple Music, festival, and catalog sources continue to identify Cœur de pirate as an active Montreal artist with an extensive bilingual international catalog and a central role in Quebec's independent music infrastructure.
