About

The artist

Corb Lund is a country and western singer-songwriter based near Taber in southern Alberta. Raised in a ranching and rodeo family, he first became known as the bassist in the Edmonton heavy rock group the Smalls before beginning his country catalog with Modern Pain in 1995. Working first as the Corb Lund Band and later with the Hurtin' Albertans, he developed a writing style that combines cowboy history, working-ranch detail, honky-tonk, folk narrative, roots rock, and dry humour. Albums including Five Dollar Bill, Hair in My Eyes Like a Highland Steer, Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier!, Cabin Fever, Things That Can't Be Undone, Agricultural Tragic, and Songs My Friends Wrote expanded that approach while keeping western Canadian life at the centre. Hair in My Eyes Like a Highland Steer received the 2006 JUNO Award for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year: Solo, and Songs My Friends Wrote received the 2022 CCMA Award for Alternative Country Album of the Year. Lund and the Hurtin' Albertans recorded El Viejo acoustically in his Lethbridge living room; the 2024 album was produced by Lund with Grant Siemens and Scott Franchuk and dedicated to Ian Tyson. His official 2026 electronic press kit documents continuing Canadian, United States, and European touring, while a current label program is reissuing the back catalog on vinyl. Current reporting also identifies Lund as a sixth-generation Albertan who lives and ranches in the Taber area.
