About

The artist

Crash Test Dummies are a Canadian alternative and folk rock band formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1988. The group developed from the local bar-band scene around the Spectrum Cabaret and Blue Note Café, with singer and guitarist Brad Roberts becoming its principal songwriter and the distinctive bass-baritone voice at the centre of its sound. The best-known lineup brought Roberts together with vocalist and keyboardist Ellen Reid, bassist Dan Roberts, multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Darvill, and drummer Mitch Dorge. The debut album The Ghosts That Haunt Me arrived in 1991 and included Superman's Song, a major Canadian single. It was followed by God Shuffled His Feet in 1993, whose Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm brought the band wide international recognition. Crash Test Dummies won the JUNO Award for Group of the Year in 1992, and God Shuffled His Feet and its breakthrough single later contributed to multiple Grammy nominations. Albums including A Worm's Life, Give Yourself a Hand, I Don't Care That You Don't Mind, Songs of the Unforgiven, and Oooh La La extended a catalog that moves between alternative rock, folk rock, roots music, and dry narrative humour. The band's membership and recording pace have changed over time, but Brad Roberts, Ellen Reid, Dan Roberts, and Mitch Dorge reunited for anniversary touring beginning in 2018. In 2026, the official band website lists an extensive schedule across Canada, Ireland, Scotland, and England through November, including a Winnipeg performance and dates in seven Canadian provinces. Current official activity, the same canonical Spotify identifier, and public music registries establish Crash Test Dummies as an active Canadian band whose home identity remains rooted in Winnipeg.
