Cristobal Tapia de Veer is a Chilean-born Canadian composer, producer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist based in Montreal, Quebec. After arriving in Quebec as a political refugee with his family, he studied classical music and percussion at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec. He entered pop music with the group One Ton, producing its recordings and contributing to the 2003 Canadian dance success Supersex World. Tapia de Veer later moved into screen composition, developing a highly individual vocabulary from processed voices, percussion, electronics, found sound, and unconventional acoustic textures. His score for the British series Utopia received the Royal Television Society award for original music in 2013. He went on to score Humans, National Treasure, Black Mirror: Black Museum, The Girl with All the Gifts, The Third Day, Smile, Smile 2, Babygirl, and other film and television projects. National Treasure earned a BAFTA television craft award in 2017. His music for The White Lotus brought multiple Primetime Emmy wins, including original main title theme music and dramatic score honours in 2022, while Renaissance became one of his most widely recognized themes. The Television Academy continues to document his awards and nominations, and SOCAN named him Screen Composer of the Year again at its 2025 Montreal gala. His 2025 catalog included music for The White Lotus season three, Babygirl, Smile 2, and the PONYBOI original soundtrack.
