About
The artist
Cryptopsy are an influential Canadian extreme metal band based in Montreal, Quebec. Emerging from the city's underground metal scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the group developed a style that combines death metal intensity, technical precision, abrupt rhythmic movement, and drummer Flo Mounier's highly recognizable playing. The early EP Ungentle Exhumation led to the 1994 album Blasphemy Made Flesh and the 1996 album None So Vile, records that became central reference points in technical and brutal death metal. Cryptopsy continued to change singers, guitarists, and bassists while extending its catalog through Whisper Supremacy, And Then You'll Beg, Once Was Not, The Unspoken King, and the self-titled Cryptopsy album. The two-part Book of Suffering EP series arrived between 2015 and 2018. A renewed recording period produced As Gomorrah Burns in 2023, the band's first album for Nuclear Blast, followed by The Book of Suffering combined edition in 2024. In June 2025, Cryptopsy released its ninth studio album, An Insatiable Violence, through Season of Mist. The record examines the corrosive effects of social media through eight compact tracks and features vocalist Matt McGachy, guitarist and producer Christian Donaldson, bassist Olivier Pinard, and founding drummer Flo Mounier. The artist-controlled Bandcamp catalog also issued the Blasphemy Made Fresh medley in July 2025. Current official sources list international European concerts and active 2026 touring, while continuing to identify the band with Montreal. Across sixteen album-format release groups, four EPs, nine singles, and extensive live work, Cryptopsy remain an active Quebec metal institution with a globally documented influence.
