About

The artist

Daniel Romano is an Ontario musician, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, poet, and visual artist based in Fenwick. He emerged from the Welland punk scene as a member of Attack in Black, then co-founded the artist-run label You've Changed Records with Steve Lambke. The collaborative album Daniel, Fred & Julie and the solo record Workin' for the Music Man introduced a catalog that has continually changed form. Sleep Beneath the Willow and Come Cry With Me explored country and countrypolitan writing, while If I've Only One Time Askin', Mosey, Modern Pressure, and Finally Free moved through orchestral pop, folk, soul, and psychedelic rock. Romano also releases fast, compact punk as Ancient Shapes and has produced and performed with artists including City and Colour. During 2020 he issued an unusually large sequence of independent recordings, ranging from acoustic work to progressive rock and a reimagining of Bob Dylan material. Daniel Romano's Outfit became the central full-band vehicle for How Ill Thy World Is Ordered, Cobra Poems, La Luna, Too Hot to Sleep, and the 2026 album Preservers of the Pearl. On that record, Romano shares writing and arrangement with Ian Romano, Carson McHone, and Tommy Major, joining punk energy, power-pop hooks, harmony singing, and live-band interplay. Artist-controlled Bandcamp and Apple Music document its March 2026 release, while current label and ticketing pages document activity and touring in 2026. The canonical Spotify identifier matches MusicBrainz, the official site, Bandcamp, Apple Music, and You've Changed Records. The label's current artist page explicitly states that Romano lives in Fenwick, Ontario; artist-controlled Bandcamp identifies Welland, Ontario, and a 2025 profile also describes him as Welland-based. These independent current sources confirm his Niagara-region Ontario base. Sleep Beneath the Willow was longlisted for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize, and later albums received further Polaris and Juno recognition. This bilingual profile uses original editorial text, omits public contact values, and does not imply artist ownership of the listing.
