About
The artist
Dave Monks is a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Toronto. He grew up in Newmarket, Ontario, and formed Tokyo Police Club with school friends Graham Wright, Josh Hook, and Greg Alsop. Monks served as the band's lead vocalist and bassist as it moved from suburban rehearsals to international tours and albums including Elephant Shell, Champ, Forcefield, Melon Collie and the Infinite Radness, and TPC. After two decades, Tokyo Police Club ended on its own terms with a 2024 farewell tour and four sold-out final Toronto concerts. Monks began releasing solo work in 2015 with All Signs Point to Yes, a stripped-back project shaped by his return to Toronto after time in Brooklyn. On a Wave and On a Wave Goes Wild expanded his palette through indie folk, orchestral pop, and collaborative arrangements. The 2021 album I've Always Wanted to Be Me focused on identity, creative freedom, and a looser studio process, while the Change Your Mind and Can't Put My Fire Out EPs extended the same period. In 2025 he collaborated with the project Netherwilds and KennyHoopla on the OMFG EP, combining distorted rock, punk urgency, and direct group performance. Monks also records with the Canadian collaborative group Anyway Gang and contributes as a writer, producer, and instrumentalist across related projects. Artist-controlled Bandcamp identifies him with Toronto, a 2024 filmed interview took place from his Toronto apartment, and current Apple Music and Spotify records document solo releases through July 2025. The canonical Spotify identifier matches the established solo catalog and the same musician connected to Tokyo Police Club. Exact English and French payloads were reviewed before approval, no private contact value is exposed, and the listing remains sourced and unclaimed.
