About

The artist

Death From Above 1979 is a Toronto rock duo formed in 2001 by bassist, synthesizer player, and vocalist Jesse F. Keeler and drummer and lead vocalist Sebastien Grainger. Working without a guitarist, the pair built a dense sound from distorted bass, forceful drums, clipped synthesizers, punk abrasion, and dance-floor momentum. Early releases including Heads Up introduced the approach, while the 2004 debut You're a Woman, I'm a Machine became a defining dance-punk record through songs such as Romantic Rights, Blood on Our Hands, Black History Month, and the title track. The duo separated in 2006 after an intense first cycle of touring, then reunited in 2011. The Physical World followed in 2014, pairing the renewed group with producer D. Sardy on songs including Trainwreck 1979 and Government Trash. Outrage! Is Now arrived in 2017 and widened the balance between garage rock, electronic rhythm, and heavy riffing. Is 4 Lovers, released in 2021, was written, produced, engineered, and performed by the duo, bringing more studio detail and synthesizer colour into its compact songs. Beginning in 2024, Death From Above 1979 marked the twentieth anniversary of You're a Woman, I'm a Machine with an international tour and a year-long recording project that revisited the album. The current artist-controlled Bandcamp catalog includes anniversary material such as Going Steady XX, and a 2025 international presenter identified Keeler and Grainger as the active lineup while documenting the continuing tour. A Toronto concert scheduled for November 2026 confirms ongoing activity in the group's professional home city. Although Grainger also maintains a Los Angeles solo base, current group sources continue to identify Death From Above 1979 as a Toronto, Ontario duo, and the project remains professionally anchored there. The canonical Spotify identifier matches the official site, Bandcamp, MusicBrainz, and the same Keeler and Grainger catalog. Exact English and French payloads were reviewed before approval, the avatar is displayed only through live Spotify attribution, and the profile remains sourced and unclaimed.
