About

The artist

Del Barber is a Manitoba singer-songwriter, guitarist, producer, farmer, and community business owner. Born in Winnipeg and raised near the line between St. Norbert and the surrounding countryside, he developed a writing voice shaped by prairie work, travel, small-town observation, and the narrative traditions of country and folk music. After spending time in Chicago open-mic rooms, he returned to Manitoba and began building a catalog of detailed songs about people whose lives rarely occupy the centre of popular music. Where the City Ends arrived in 2009, followed by Love Songs for the Last 20 in 2010. The latter received a Juno nomination for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year, Solo, and established Barber as a nationally recognized songwriter. Headwaters followed in 2012, and Prairieography in 2014 sharpened his portraits of western Canadian life through songs including Big Smoke. Prairieography received another Juno nomination and several Western Canadian Music Award honours. The hockey-themed The Puck Drops Here appeared in 2016, while Easy Keeper in 2019 earned a Juno nomination for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year. Stray Dogs collected B-sides in 2021. Barber wrote his eighth album, Almanac, on the rural Manitoba farm and ranch he shares with his family and recorded it in Winnipeg with a close group of players. Released in April 2023, its twelve songs connect farming, parenthood, loss, gratitude, economic pressure, and the moral complexity of prairie life. Current 2025 local reporting places Barber and his family just north of Inglis, confirms their long-standing community ties, and documents their ownership of The Shop on Inglis Main Street. Music now shares space with farming, cooking, family, and local business, but current concert listings and active catalog records continue to identify Barber as a working artist. The canonical Spotify identifier matches Apple Music, MusicBrainz, current catalog records, and the same eight-album songwriter. The previously listed delbarber.com domain now redirects to unrelated gambling content and was excluded from every public link and contact field. Exact English and French payloads were reviewed before approval, no private contact is exposed, Spotify media remains live and attributed, and the profile is sourced and unclaimed.
