Despised Icon is a Montreal deathcore band formed in 2002. The group developed a recognizable combination of death-metal speed and precision, grindcore intensity, hardcore breakdowns, and contrasting vocal approaches. Consumed by Your Poison arrived in the band's first year, followed by The Healing Process in 2005, The Ills of Modern Man in 2007, and Day of Mourning in 2009. After a hiatus focused on family life, Despised Icon reunited and released Beast in 2016, reaching number two on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. Purgatory followed in 2019, and the Déterré rarities EP marked the project's twentieth anniversary in 2022. The band returned in 2025 with Shadow Work, its seventh studio album and first new full-length in six years.
