The artist

Shub is a Mohawk producer, turntablist, composer, and member of the Turtle Clan of the Six Nations of the Grand River. Raised in Fort Erie, Ontario, he developed as a battle DJ and won consecutive DMC Canada titles in 2007 and 2008 before joining A Tribe Called Red. His production helped shape the meeting of powwow rhythms and electronic bass music often called powwow-step. After leaving the group, he built a solo catalog beginning with the 2016 PowWowStep EP and continuing through War Club, Heritage (Part One), and Heritage (Part Two). His work expands beyond dance-floor production into film composition, hip-hop, trip-hop, drill, and collaborative recordings with Indigenous singers, drummers, dancers, and rappers. The Trials, written for The Grizzlies, received the 2019 Canadian Screen Award for Best Original Song. Shub won the 2022 JUNO Award for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year for War Club, adding to the JUNO he received as a member of A Tribe Called Red. His current official biography documents the shift from DJ Shub to Shub as his work expands from turntablism into composing and storytelling. The current catalog remains active through Heritage (Part Two) in 2026.
