About
The artist
D.O.A. is a Vancouver punk and hardcore band formed in 1978 by guitarist and vocalist Joe Keithley with bassist Randy Rampage and drummer Chuck Biscuits. The group emerged from the city's first wave of punk, self-releasing the Disco Sucks EP before building an international touring circuit. Something Better Change arrived in 1980, followed by Hardcore '81, the album most closely associated with the spread of the word hardcore as a name for a faster and heavier branch of punk. D.O.A.'s catalog has continued to connect direct, high-energy rock with commentary on war, inequality, corruption, racism, environmental issues, and other public concerns. Keithley is the sole member present across the band's full history, while numerous Vancouver punk musicians have moved through the lineup. Official label material identifies the current trio as Keithley, Paddy Duddy, and Mike Hodsall. The band's long discography includes War on 45, Last Scream of the Missing Neighbors with Jello Biafra, Win the Battle, Talk-Action=0, Fight Back, and the 2020 studio album Treason. Recent catalog activity includes anniversary and archival editions, while Sudden Death Records announced renewed touring in 2024 and current listings continue into 2026. The canonical Spotify identifier matches Apple Music and MusicBrainz records for the Vancouver band, avoiding unrelated artists that share the initials. Official label, DSP, registry, and current distribution material all identify D.O.A. as active and Vancouver-based. This profile treats the band's historical influence as context without assigning verified or claimed status.
