About

The artist

Don Ross is a guitarist, composer, vocalist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Windsor, Nova Scotia. Born and raised in Montreal, he studied music at York University and began working full time as a musician in 1988. That year he won the US National Fingerpick Guitar Championship for the first time, then became the competition's only two-time winner with a second title in 1996. His groove-centred fingerstyle approach draws on folk, jazz, blues, classical composition, and percussive acoustic technique. Ross recorded for Duke Street, Sony Music and Columbia, Narada, and CandyRat before releasing newer work independently through Goby Fish Music. Huron Street reached the Billboard New Age top ten in 2001, and his catalog also includes Passion Session, Robot Monster, Music for Vacuuming, A Million Brazilian Civilians, Water, and the vocal album Songs That Found Me. His official biography identifies Songs That Found Me as his nineteenth solo album and twenty-sixth album including collaborations. It was released in April 2026 after most of the recording was completed at his Windsor studio. Ross also writes orchestral and electronic music for games, film, and television, leads Don Ross Louder Than Usual, and performs a duo program with Julie Malía. The Canada Council for the Arts awarded him the Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts in 2021. His current official biography, Music Nova Scotia profile, and artist Bandcamp page all place him in Windsor, Nova Scotia. A Spotify biography still names Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; that location is retained as a documented stale-source conflict and is superseded by the aligned current sources. Spotify, MusicBrainz, the official site, and the current catalog resolve to the same artist. Exact English and French payloads, including contact instructions, were reviewed before approval, only public professional routing is exposed, Spotify media remains live and provider-attributed, and the profile is sourced and unclaimed.
