About
The artist
Donna Brown is a Canadian soprano and voice teacher with a current professional base in Montréal, Quebec. She studied voice, piano, and composition in Ottawa and continued her performance studies at McGill University before training in France, Austria, and Italy. Brown built an international career across opera, oratorio, contemporary music, recital, and chamber repertoire, appearing on stages in Europe, Asia, North America, and South America. Her collaborations have included conductors John Eliot Gardiner, Kent Nagano, Helmuth Rilling, William Christie, Daniel Barenboim, Bernard Haitink, Charles Dutoit, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Carlo Maria Giulini, and Antonio Pappano. She created the role of Scylla in Leclair's Scylla et Glaucus and sang Chimène in the premiere completion of Debussy's Rodrigue et Chimène. Her recorded catalog includes Handel's Agrippina and Alexander's Feast, Berlioz's Messe solennelle, Scylla et Glaucus, Brahms's A German Requiem, Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileiras, A Journey of Longing, and the 2024 digital release Aus tiefer Not. Brown has placed increasing emphasis on teaching, limiting travel to work closely with voice students at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. Its current faculty profile lists her in Montréal, includes a 2025 student outcome, and the Conservatoire's 2025-26 program names her as a responsible professor. McGill independently documents her participation on the 2024-25 Wirth Vocal Prize jury in Montréal. These current institutional records support Quebec as her professional province. Spotify, Apple Music, MusicBrainz, and credited recordings resolve to the same classical soprano; archival reissues are treated as catalog activity rather than evidence of newly recorded performances. Exact English and French payloads were reviewed before approval, no private contact information is published, Spotify media remains live and provider-attributed, and the profile is sourced and unclaimed.
