About

The artist

D.W. Waterson is a Toronto-based electronic artist, DJ, drummer, producer, and filmmaker. They began building a presence in Toronto's underground club community in the early 2010s, where their Home Brew party and DJ work became foundations for a broader practice joining music and screen storytelling. Waterson created the digital series That's My DJ from experiences in the city's queer electronic scene, and their music combines percussion-led electronic production, pop structure, club energy, and punk-informed drums. Their 2021 debut EP Home Brew Vol. 1 translated the spirit of the recurring party into a compact collaborative release, including Bubble with Sydanie. Home Brew Vol. 2 followed in 2024 with guests including Tanya Tagaq, Exmiranda, MYYA, Mint Simon, T. Thomason, and Tafari Anthony. The same year also brought the singles Bodylimit and DITN. Waterson's film practice remains closely tied to sound: they created original electronic music for the feature Backspot, which they directed, and have described music and filmmaking as interconnected parts of their work. The canonical Spotify identifier matches the D.W. Waterson catalog shown by public DSP and registry sources. Artist-controlled SoundCloud identifies Toronto as their location, a 2024 interview says they have lived in the city since age eighteen, and current professional profiles continue to describe them as Toronto-based. This record focuses on Waterson's music practice while preserving the cross-disciplinary context that shapes it.
