El Mehdi is the current artist name of Mehdi Bahmad, a Moroccan-born singer-songwriter, producer, director, and multidisciplinary artist based in Montréal, Quebec. Raised between Morocco, France, and Quebec, he works in Arabic, French, and English and connects contemporary pop, electronic and dance production, chaabi, Amazigh motifs, Gnawa voices, visual art, and movement. Earlier work under the name Mehdi Bahmad began in 2018 and included the EP Khôl, self-directed music videos, and a 2022 PHI North residency for Quebec-based musicians.
