The artist

Elsiane is a Montréal-based duo formed in 2000 by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Elsieanne Caplette and drummer Stéphane Sotto. Caplette brought classical training from the Lima Conservatory in Peru, while Montréal-born Sotto developed as a self-taught percussionist. Their shared interest in electronic music, jazz, rock, classical writing, and world-music traditions shaped a cinematic form of trip-hop led by Caplette's distinctive voice and Sotto's dynamic percussion. The debut album Hybrid arrived in 2007 and established the project through songs including Vaporous. Mechanics of Emotion followed in 2012, Death of the Artist in 2017, and the collaboration Rin, Tongue and Dorner in 2018. The duo also contributed to the music for Quebec City's 400th-anniversary production in a project involving Cirque du Soleil and Booka Shade. Their self-titled fifth studio album was released in October 2023 and produced by David Bottrill, with guest musicians including Pedro Eustache, Trey Gunn, Tony Grey, and Caroline Planté.
