About

The artist

Esmerine is an instrumental chamber-rock ensemble based in Montréal. Percussionist Bruce Cawdron and cellist Rebecca Foon co-founded the project in 2001, and its evolving lineup has expanded the original cello-and-percussion format through strings, brass, keyboards, bass, and a wide range of acoustic instruments. The ensemble's seven-album catalog begins with If Only a Sweet Surrender to the Nights Be True in 2003 and continues through Aurora, La Lechuza, Dalmak, Lost Voices, Mechanics of Dominion, and Everything Was Forever Until It Was No More. Its recordings frequently use collaboration to connect modern chamber music, post-rock, minimalism, folk instrumentation, and experimental composition. Dalmak won the 2014 JUNO Award for Instrumental Album of the Year, Lost Voices received a nomination in the same category in 2016, and Everything Was Forever Until It Was No More received 2023 JUNO recognition for both instrumental album and album artwork. Current evidence supports continued activity: Constellation Records lists Esmerine among its active and current artists, maintains the current artist and catalog pages, and documents performances supporting the latest album in 2023; the ensemble's artist-controlled Bandcamp still identifies Montréal, Quebec, and provides current catalog and contact surfaces. The exact Spotify identity contains seven albums and one single from 2003 through 2022. English and French copy and translation provenance were reviewed, the public contact route links to the active label profile, Spotify media is provider-attributed, and no private contact information is reproduced.
