About
The artist
Ex Deo is a symphonic death metal band formed in Montreal in 2008 by Kataklysm frontman Maurizio Iacono. The project builds its records and stage identity around the history of the Roman Empire, combining death metal, orchestral arrangements, and narrative concepts tied to specific rulers and conflicts. The exact Spotify identity contains four studio albums, one EP, and four standalone singles, beginning with Romulus in June 2009 and continuing through the four-track Year of the Four Emperors in January 2025. Reigning Phoenix Music's current roster page confirms the latest EP, its four-song historical structure, the active five-member lineup, and ongoing label relationship. The artist-controlled Bandcamp page currently identifies Ex Deo with Montreal, Quebec, and lists a 2026 performance, while a separately maintained metal reference updated in February 2025 independently identifies Montreal, Quebec, Canada, as the band's origin and operating identity. Apple Music connects the same catalog and notes that Caligvla received a 2013 JUNO Award nomination for Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year. The current lineup comprises Iacono on vocals, J-F Dagenais and Stéphane Barbe on guitars, Dano Apekian on bass, and James Payne on drums. English and French copy and translation provenance were reviewed together, Spotify media is rendered with provider attribution, professional inquiries are routed through the official Bandcamp contact surface, and no direct personal contact details are republished.
