About

The artist

François-Félix Roy is a Montreal singer, guitarist, and foot-percussionist working in Québécois traditional and contemporary folk music. His arrangements combine traditional songs, reels, and waltzes with expressive fingerstyle guitar, foot percussion, and the quieter storytelling sensibility of a folksinger. Festival Trad Montréal recognized him with its 2022 Aldor Emerging Artist Award. His first solo album, Peines perdues, was produced by Éric Beaudry and released in May 2023. The record led to performances in Canada, the United States, Italy, and Denmark, along with a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Traditional Singer of the Year and a GAMIQ nomination for Traditional Album of the Year. Roy joined the Irish-Québécois trio Grosse Isle as guitarist in 2024 and appears in the group's current work around its 2025 album Homérique. He also initiated and mentors Ensemble Trad Jeunesse, a Montreal youth orchestra for traditional music, and co-founded the Veillées urbaines traditional-dance series. His official site documents current 2026 performances and the creation of a second solo album tracing his maternal family roots on the Côte-Nord, scheduled for 2027. The exact Spotify identity contains three distinct primary release containers from April through May 2023: one album and two singles. Peines perdues is the complete album, preceded by Galant, tu perds ton temps and Suite de la cardeuse. Apple Music and the artist-controlled Bandcamp corroborate the exact identity and catalogue, while the latter identifies Montreal, Quebec as his current public base.
