The artist

Hubert Proulx is a Montréal singer-songwriter, guitarist, actor, and stage creator working across music, theatre, television, film, voice, and dance. After graduating from the National Theatre School of Canada in 2004, he developed an extensive acting career while building a parallel music practice. His artist-controlled debut album, Hubert Proulx, was recorded in 2017 and released in May 2018. Proulx wrote the music and most of the lyrics, sang, and played guitar, working with producer and multi-instrumentalist Brigitte Briga Dajczer and drummer Jera Cravo. Its ten songs move between French and English, with a small amount of Russian, and combine folk, blues, punk, nocturnal storytelling, and emotionally direct performance. Proulx followed the album with P'tit-p'tit and the five-track Maternelle in 2020, then Les chiens fancy and On s'oublie pas in 2021. His music and stage work became more closely connected through On s'lâche pas, a personal touring production created and performed with his son.
