The artist

Ila Barker writes folk-soul songs shaped by personal reflection, community care, and her Anishinaabe and settler heritage. She released her first project in 2013 and developed the songs for her debut full-length album, Fool Under Water, over several years before recording it in Winnipeg with Sierra Noble and Rusty Matyas. Barker has performed at Canadian festivals and international showcases, and her song Intuition reached number one on the Indigenous Music Countdown. Alongside her recording and live work, she founded AIRsessions, a mentorship program supporting Indigenous music artists, and remained active as a Winnipeg performer and mentor in 2026.
