About

The artist

Jim Guthrie is a musician, songwriter, producer, and screen composer based in Toronto, Ontario. Raised in Guelph, he began with self-produced cassettes and released A Thousand Songs in 1999. Guthrie helped establish Three Gut Records and played guitar in Royal City before Now, More Than Ever brought his detailed indie-pop arrangements to a wider audience. That album received a 2005 JUNO Award nomination for Alternative Album of the Year. His 2013 solo album Takes Time later appeared on the official Polaris Music Prize Long List. Guthrie's composing practice spans advertising, film, and video games. His score for Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP became a defining part of the game and was released as Sword & Sworcery LP: The Ballad of the Space Babies in 2011. Further projects include Indie Game: The Movie, Reigns: Her Majesty with JJ Ipsen, Below, Bleak Sword, Planet Coaster, Overmorrow, and Nobody Saves the World. Nintendo identifies Guthrie as the composer of the original music for Nobody Saves the World, while his artist-operated Bandcamp documents the soundtrack as written, recorded, and mixed by him. The current exact Spotify identity contains 24 primary album and single containers from November 1999 through January 2022, comprising 19 albums and five provider-classified singles. His artist-operated Bandcamp carries a wider 36-release direct catalog and extends current activity through HELIX: Descent N Ascent, released in February 2026 with music recorded and mixed by Guthrie. Representative releases include A Thousand Songs, Now, More Than Ever, Sword & Sworcery LP, Takes Time, Below, Nobody Saves the World, and HELIX. The current Bandcamp account explicitly says that Guthrie is a musician and composer living in Toronto, independently satisfying MusicList's current Canadian city and province gate. Current professional contact routes through that artist-operated account. His Spotify profile image is requested live from Spotify with visible attribution rather than stored by MusicList.
