The artist
Joel Jeschke is an Edmonton-based drummer, percussionist, and composer whose work moves across contemporary jazz, rock, pop, theatre, and orchestral performance. Raised in rural Saskatchewan, he relocated to Edmonton to study jazz and contemporary popular music at MacEwan University and became an active freelance player and band member. His credits include Royal Tusk, Whale and the Wolf, Edmonton Winds, and numerous independent artists. As a bandleader, Jeschke released his debut contemporary-jazz album Time & Place in 2024, writing and performing music built from asymmetric grooves, improvisation, dissonance, and accessible melody. The album led to his 2025 Western Canadian Music Award for Instrumental Artist of the Year, followed by a new single in 2025.
