The artist

Kandle is a singer-songwriter, producer, guitarist, and art director based in Montréal, Quebec. Raised in Victoria, British Columbia, she developed her songwriting in the Blue Violets with her sister Coral Osborne and Louise Burns. She began her solo project in 2011. After releasing the self-titled Kandle EP in 2012, she moved to Montréal and built a sound around alternative rock, southern gothic, trip-hop, soul, and pop noir. In Flames followed in 2014 and established her dark, cinematic approach through songs including Not Up To Me. The video for that song received a 2015 JUNO nomination for Video of the Year and won the 2015 Prism Prize Audience Award. Holy Smoke arrived in 2018. In 2020, Kandle returned to independent recording and released Stick Around and Find Out, followed by Set the Fire in 2021 and the Inferno EP in 2022. Her fifth studio album, Danger To Dream, arrived in October 2024. She wrote and produced the album with longtime collaborator Jeffrey Mitchell, with performances from Yato Noukoussi, Debra-Jean Creelman, and Kendel Carson. Kandle is also credited as an engineer and performer on the record.
