About

The artist

Kid Koala is the stage name of Eric San, a turntablist, composer, producer, filmmaker, theatre creator, and visual artist based in Montréal, Quebec. He began performing as a scratch DJ in 1994 and developed an approach that treats turntables as instruments for melody, rhythm, character, and visual storytelling. His early releases for Ninja Tune include Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Some of My Best Friends Are DJs, and Your Mom's Favorite DJ. Later projects expanded from sample-based hip hop into blues, ambient composition, game music, and theatrical cinema. 12 Bit Blues rebuilt blues vocabulary through hand-cut samples, while Music to Draw To: Satellite and Music to Draw To: Io paired quiet electronic arrangements with vocal collaborators. His 42-track score for Floor Kids supported the Montréal-made breakdance video game, and Creatures of the Late Afternoon became a twenty-track album packaged with a playable board game. The exact Spotify identity contains 33 primary album and single containers from February 2000 through March 2026. MusicList normalizes those provider records as ten albums, one soundtrack sampler EP, and twenty-two singles. Kid Koala has also contributed music to films including Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Looper, and The Great Gatsby, and has worked with Deltron 3030, Gorillaz, Lovage, the Afiara String Quartet, Emilíana Torrini, and Trixie Whitley. His live practice combines music with puppetry, miniature cinema, audience turntables, drawing, and interactive staging in productions such as Nufonia Must Fall, The Storyville Mosquito, and the Satellite Turntable Orchestra. The 2025 animated feature Space Cadet extended his graphic novel into a dialogue-free film that he directed and scored. It premiered in the Generation Kplus program at the Berlin International Film Festival. A ten-track soundtrack sampler followed in March 2026 through Envision Records, with featured vocalists including Meaghan Smith, Ladybug Mecca, Trixie Whitley, and Emilíana Torrini. His official site is actively promoting the film, soundtrack, touring productions, and current booking routes in 2026. The site identifies Envision Management for management and most booking inquiries, with a separate North American route for DJ sets and Vinyl Vaudeville. Current location is supported independently by his official biography, artist-operated Bandcamp, MusicBrainz, and a 2026 Films du Québec profile identifying him as Montréal-based. Spotify media is displayed remotely with provider attribution and a monogram fallback.
