About
The artist
Kobo Town is an acclaimed Canadian calypso and roots music ensemble founded in Toronto in 2005 by Trinidadian-born singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Drew Gonsalves. Named after the historic Port of Spain neighborhood considered the birthplace of calypso music, the band revitalizes classic calypso storytelling with energetic ska, reggae, and dub arrangements. Their albums Independence, Jumbie in the Jukebox, and Where the Galleons Sank earned widespread international acclaim, with Where the Galleons Sank winning the 2018 Juno Award for World Music Album of the Year. In 2022, the group released Carnival of the Ghosts on Stonetree Records. Represented by UNFIT Music, Kobo Town tours extensively across world music festivals worldwide.
