Leanne Betasamosake Simpson is a Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg musician, writer, artist, and independent scholar based in Nogojiwanong, also known as Peterborough, Ontario. She is a member of Alderville First Nation and works across music, literature, film, performance, and land-based education. Her recordings combine sung and spoken voice with alternative, electronic, folk, punk, new-wave, and Indigenous musical practices. f(l)ight, released in 2016, established an album-length meeting of story-songs, poetry, and layered arrangements. Theory of Ice followed in 2021 and was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize. That year, Simpson also received the Prism Prize's Willie Dunn Award, recognizing a Canadian trailblazer in music, music video, or film production. Live Like The Sky arrived through You've Changed Records on October 24, 2025. Its eleven tracks were developed with Jonas Bonnetta, Caylie Runciman, Ansley Simpson, Tanner Paré, Nick Ferrio, and Steven Lambke, with Simpson credited for vocals and songwriting.
