About
The artist
L'Oumigmag is a Montréal-based jazz and avant-trad ensemble founded in 2017 by composer and guitarist Sébastien Sauvageau. The project began as a quartet on Territoires, expanded to a sextet for the 2019 double album Habitant, and now works as a quintet. The current official lineup joins Sauvageau on guitar, synthesizers, electronics, and voice with Dâvi Simard on fiddle and foot percussion, Alex Dodier on saxophones, bass clarinet, and synthesizers, Stéphane Diamantakiou on double bass, electric bass, and synthesizer bass, and Sam Joly on drums and synthesizers. The live suite Olomotone followed in 2024 with Wolastoqey dancer Ivanie Aubin-Malo. That year the ensemble signed with Swiss label Ronin Rhythm Records for its third studio album, Ce qui tourne dans l'air, released on April 11, 2025. The album's artist-controlled credits name Sauvageau as composer, L'Oumigmag as arranger, Erika Angell as a guest vocalist, Nik Bärtsch as executive producer, Greg Freeman as mixer, and Zino Mikorey as mastering engineer. Its eight pieces connect traditional fiddle sources with contemporary jazz, post-minimal rhythm, ambient electronics, and improvisation. The exact Spotify identity contains five primary album and single containers from September 2019 through April 2025: two albums and three singles. The artist-controlled Bandcamp catalog preserves a broader four-release history beginning with Territoires in 2017 and including the 2024 live release. The official electronic press kit documents a 2019 GAMIQ jazz-album nomination and the audience award at the Festi Jazz international de Rimouski. Current official, Bandcamp, MusicBrainz, and independent jazz sources connect the same ensemble to Quebec, while the current Bandcamp profile identifies Montréal.
