About

The artist

Malika Tirolien is a Guadeloupe-born vocalist, songwriter, pianist, and producer based in Montréal, Quebec. She moved to Canada in 2001 to study jazz performance at Université de Montréal and began building her professional career in the city after graduating in 2005. A current Ottawa Jazz Festival profile for a June 2026 GeminiCrab performance identifies her as a Montréal-based vocalist and producer, confirming both her present Canadian base and continued activity. Tirolien calls her blend of R&B, soul, jazz, hip-hop, ambient textures, and Caribbean influence HighSoul. Her first solo album, Sur La Voie Ensoleillée, appeared in 2014. GroundUP Music identifies the record as self-produced, composed, and written by Tirolien. Her second solo album, HIGHER, followed in 2021 and was co-produced with Michael League. The exact Spotify identity contains 11 principal album and single containers from July 2014 through November 2022. All 11 are led by Malika Tirolien and survive identity reconciliation. Spotify classifies two as albums and nine as singles. Representative releases include Sur La Voie Ensoleillée, RISE, HIGHER, Change Your Life arranged by Michael Mayo, and DREAMIN' arranged by Sirintip. Later work released under separate project identities is not added to that solo count. Tirolien is the lead vocalist and co-leader of Bokanté, whose albums What Heat and History received Grammy nominations for Best Global Music Album in 2020 and 2024. She also records and performs in the Montréal HighSoul duo GeminiCrab with keyboardist and producer Caulder Nash. Their Gen Y Lens project and current performances provide additional evidence of her active work without being folded into her solo Spotify totals. Her explicit self-production and co-production credits support inclusion in both MusicList's artist and producer categories.
